Dear Friends,
India has had a major democratic debate through public hearings on Bt. Brinjal (Eggplant). I think it is second only to the Swiss Referendum on GMOs. The decision of the people is an overwhelming "No" to Bt. Brinjal and GMOs.
More than nine State have also exercised their Constitutional right to say "NO" to Bt. Brinjal.

DECLARACIÓN Los campesinos y campesinas Del Sur Este y Este de Asia
Nosotros, delegados del séctor campesino, hombres y mujeres pertenecientes al movimiento internacional de La Vía Campesina en la región del Sur Este y Este de Asia, asistimos al evento de Formación Regional sobre los Derechos de las Campesinas y Campesinos, que se llevó a cabo en la provincia de Chachoengsao, Tailandia, entre el 26 y el 29 de mayo del 2009. Durante esta formación hemos reiterado nuestro compromiso para la defensa y el sostenimiento de estos derechos; nuestra iniciativa por la Convención Internacional de los Derechos de las Campesinas y Campesinos ha logrado avances dentro de la legislación y los mecanismos de las Naciones Unidas. Asi mismo hemos estado trabajando en varios niveles como el espacio regional de la ASEAN así como en nuestros respectivos ámbitos nacionales.

STATEMENT
Peasants of South East and East Asia
We, delegates of peasants, women and men, of the international movement La Via Campesina in the South East and East Asia region, attended the Regional Training on the Rights of Peasants in Chachoengsao Province, Thailand from 26 to 29 May 2009. During this training we reiterated our commitment to uphold these rights; our initiative towards the International Convention on the Rights of Peasants (ICRP) has been advancing within UN law and human rights mechanisms and we have been working in many different levels such as regional (ASEAN) and our respective national levels as well.
