India has had a major democratic debate through public hearings on Bt. Brinjal (Eggplant). I think it is second only to the Swiss Referendum on GMOs. The decision of the people is an overwhelming "No" to Bt. Brinjal and GMOs.

More than nine State have also exercised their Constitutional right to say "NO" to Bt. Brinjal.

Tomorrow, the 10th of February, 2010, the Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh who organised the public hearings will announce his decision on Bt. Brinjal. If the decision is based on the democratic rights and the will of the people of India, it will be a clear no.

However, to influence the decision Nina Fedoroff, the Technology Adviser to Hillary Clinton and the GMO pusher worldwide has arrived in India.

Will the private hearings of Nina undo the public hearings? We will know tomorrow at 12.30 pm India Time.

No matter what the outcome, the GMO Free Governments and GMO Free
Movements will continue to work for GMO Free Food and Farming in India.

The British too had tried to impose the Salt Law like the U.S Government aiding Monsanto is trying to impose GMOs. Just as India said "NO" to the Salt Laws through the Salt Satyagraha, we will continue to say "NO" to GMOs through our Seed Satyagraha.

Monsanto and its GMOs are a cancer that can only survive through predatory growth. Cancer cells die in recession. Across the world we must organise to send a message that enough is enough. We will not allow this dictatorship over our food. We will not allow Monsanto to undo citizens victory in U.S on Alfa Alfa and Beetroot using the Supreme Court. We will not allow Monsanto to use the Courts in Italy to undo the decision of GMO Free Regions.

2010 is the year of Biodiversity.  This is the year where we must ensure that people and biodiversity are protected from Monsanto's aggression and the support Monsanto receives from the U.S Government.
